Student Job Link's Resources

With the current state of the economy, it is becoming very difficult to find jobs in some professions.  Also, the jobs that are available in those professions are usually being snatched up by the most experienced people, meaning that the recent college graduate is a bit out of luck.

But, while this may seem discouraging at first, that does not mean that there are no jobs out there.  What you need to do is to generate a list of your skills and experience in order to determine exactly what type of job you can do.  To better determine your specific skills check this out .

While you may not get that dream job as soon as you get out of college, you will be able to find a job that will build your experience in relevant skills and also establish yourself as a working professional.  When the economy rebounds, you will be perfectly situated to snatch up that dream job, and the company hiring you will marvel at how lucky they were to find somebody with the precise set of skills along with a strong employment history.

The first thing to do is to list all of the skills that are necessary for your dream job .  Let’s say that you want to be an architect.  You are going to need a strong grounding in math, building codes and regulations, aesthetics, etc.  Now, you can take that set of skills and find jobs that are relevant.

The math skills that you developed in attaining your architectural degree can be of use in many different fields, but the familiarity with building codes will narrow your search.  So, try to find ancillary positions that are related to the architectural business, like becoming a building inspector or getting a position at a renovations firm.

Also, you may try to find a job in a different part of an architectural company.  If you can get a position as a sales assistant or something similar, that will give you experience in other areas of the industry.  When you do finally apply for that dream job down the line, you will be able to say that not only can you design a great building, but you also have the skills necessary to interact directly with the customer to ensure that they get what they want.

The are the same for any industry.  Write down a list of skills necessary for your dream job and then write down a list of jobs that are related to the industry you want to work in.  Find the best match between the skills and jobs, and you have a perfect alternative that will prepare you for the future.
